Candidates will also need to make a commitment to a single leadership intervention to improve health and safety management within their organization, or sphere of workplace influence.

Candidates must achieve a ‘Pass’ in HSL1 to pass the qualification.

Overview

The qualification covers knowledge such as the roles and responsibilities of the first aider, how to assess an incident. The qualification also covers first aid skills in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR for adult, child and infant), safe use of an AED and assisting a casualty who is choking and dealing with external bleeding and hypovolemic shock, also how to provide first aid for minor injuries.

Course Outline

This course will equip learners with the skills and certainty to move assertively and become a vigilant parent or nanny in identifying a child or toddler in distress and how to do effective CPR, operate an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) during cardiac arrest, and how to deal with a choking child. The course is explicitly designed for newborns and children up to 5 years of age.

Assessment

To pass this course, the learner must complete all the modules online via videos provided. A 15 question multiple choice quiz will follow. You will need to gain 80% or higher to pass the course. A time limit of 1 hour is provided to answer the questions, with three attempts permitted if required.

On this course, we cover the crowd science and risk analysis tools with their application for planning and managing places of public assembly in depth. There are 18 modules to this course. We expand on all the themes in the Level 3 Fundamentals course and provide an extensive range of documents for your studies. This course includes the 3D Crowds crowd visualising software.

This course can be taken today via the e-learning system where you can navigate through the course at your own pace of around maximum 25 hours learning. Alternatively, you can join a 3 day in classroom or online learning group hosted by JAM. 

Assessment

To pass this course, the learner must complete all modules via watching the videos provided or attending the face to face 3 day course. This course is marked via 2 assessments: 

The first assessment paper is an essay discussing the development, application and a critical analysis of crowd science (crowd modelling and crowd dynamics). The minimum word count is 1,500 words. There is no upper limit to the word count.  

The second assessment paper is an essay discussing the development, application, and uses of the various models discussed in the lectures. You must include examples of the modelling tools for an event including a critical analysis of their application. DIM-ICE, Density and flow rates, Risk and Congestion Mapping, RAMP Analysis, Decision Support Analysis, related to an event of your choice. Again, the minimum word count is 1,500 words. There is no upper limit to the word count.  

For both assessments you need to reach a minimum pass rate of 50%.
